Osip Mandelstam

You took away all the oceans and all the room.
You gave me my shoe-size in earth with bars around it.
Where did it get you? Nowhere.
You left me my lips, and they shape words, even in silence.

  • the last line is truly the feeling of loss after a relationship. talking in silence. still used to seeing the person even remembering what they would say or how they would react to a situation. still taking. but no one hearing anymore.

    When Grandma fell off the boat,
    And couldn’t swim (and wouldn’t float),
    Matilda just stood by and smiled.
    I almost could have slapped the child.
